The League of Lezhë was formed in 1444, uniting Albanian princes under Skanderbeg's military leadership. This was a critical political and military alliance.

The union marked the first time the various Albanian noble families acted as a unified entity, significantly boosting their chances of survival.

Skanderbeg was officially proclaimed the chief military commander of the league.
